FakeYou Alternative: Lazybird vs FakeYou

FakeYou is a free archive of community-made voice models. Its terms call it "a research technology for fun" and forbid commercial use outside specially marked voices. When we tested it on November 7, 2026, every text-to-speech request returned a "too many requests" error and no audio. Lazybird generated every test clip that day, allows commercial use on paid plans, and has no 30-second to 2-minute cap per clip.

Where Lazybird is better

Exactly Where Lazybird Beats FakeYou

Each point below comes from our own test of both products on November 7, 2026.

Audio you actually get

FakeYou

On November 7, 2026, every request we sent, as a guest and signed in, returned "too many requests" and no audio.

Lazybird

Every test clip generated, and the character voice pages play without an account.

Commercial use

FakeYou

Its terms: "You may not use FakeYou deepfakes for commercial use (unless otherwise stated, and only with specially denoted commercial voices)."

Lazybird

Paid plans include commercial rights, and audio you made stays usable after you cancel.

No forced "deep fake" label

FakeYou

Its terms require every published use to be labeled "deep fake".

Lazybird

Our policy allows obvious parody and satire, and asks for an AI label where the law or a platform requires it, or when in doubt.

Full scripts, not 30-second clips

FakeYou

Paid plans cap each clip at 30 seconds (Plus, $12), 1 minute (Pro, $25) or 2 minutes (Elite, $40).

Lazybird

Write a full script in blocks and export it as one MP3, WAV or MP4.

A library that's still growing

FakeYou

Its 3,769 public voice models all use one older model type, and the newest was uploaded in January 2024.

Lazybird

New official voices arrived in 2026, and you can clone a voice or design one from a text description.

Where FakeYou Is Better, and Who Should Switch

FakeYou is better if you:

  • want one specific, obscure character from its archive of 3,769 community models (3,281 in English, 363 in Spanish), and
  • only need short clips for personal fun, for free.

Lazybird is the better fit if you:

  • publish videos, shorts or ads and need commercial rights;
  • need clips longer than 30 seconds;
  • want parody voices for creative projects: the celebrity and character voice generator works without an account;
  • want your own voice or a new one: clone from a 10–30 second recording or design a voice from a text description.

Parody of real people has to be obvious to a reasonable listener; see our Acceptable Use Policy.

How We Tested

On November 7, 2026 we tried FakeYou's text to speech as a guest and signed in with a Google account, with several voices including popular characters. Every request returned the error synthetic_too_many_requests, and the page showed no audio. That's what we saw that day; it may work at other times.

We also read FakeYou's terms (last updated November 18, 2022) and its pricing page, and counted its public list of voice models: 3,769 models, uploaded in 2021 (819), 2022 (1,420), 2023 (1,451) and 2024 (79). The most recent upload is from January 23, 2024.

On Lazybird we generated every test script on the same day, with our official voices, as 48 kHz MP3s.

Voice cloning is AMAZING

“The program itself takes a few tries to get used to. I was really interested in the voice cloning. One five-minute audio of me reading a book and BAM! minutes later it was loaded. I played with the expressiveness and speed and I CAN'T BELIEVE IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE ME!!!!! You can do multiple clones, so I am going to make a recording for different genres. This is over the top exciting. THANK YOU!”

Makes creating podcasts easy

“Lazybird uses your scripts (dialogues) to create voiceovers. The voiceovers can be one or more persons, though I only created two-person podcasts, a host and a guest...”

Awesome: Effortless Script Handling

“I have tried several systems before, and I can confidently say this is the best for long scripts. I even used it for a long audio script that lasts around 75 minutes.The great thing is that you just need to bring the text and paste it in the first section; the system will take all the script, no matter how long, and just past it, and it will divide it into sections. There's no need to copy one paragraph or sentence at a time...”
